I’ve been a little 2 steps forward, 4 steps back. Some recent hormone tests showed cortisol through the roof, all other hormones tanked. I was told my stress was just too high, which seems ridiculous since I haven’t been able to work for Quite a while and my long suffering husband does his best to pick up all the loose ends. I’ve been resigned to this new normal for quite a while and feel no capacity to ‘stress’ about it. (Though family and friends say it must be stressing me. Believe me I know what stressed out feels like and my MO is more like watching the world go by but breathing in and out. Diaphragmatically whenever the notion pops to mind.) I can meditate really well due to brain fog creating a blank slate. So what gives.
After much research and little improvement, ordered second round of hormone tests but see that even if a referral to an Endicrinologist leads to an answer, it’s nearly guaranteed to not have a good result improving my state of well being.
In the past adding cbd oil could help daily functioning quite a bit but go-to brand had been out of stock for quite a while. Scored 2 bottles this weekend and started trying to recover. It took only a morning to feel 80 percent better. Going to spend the week looking to stock up on the cbd oil; also looking forward to receiving 2 new migraine protocols in the mail this month. One is a vagus nerve stimulator (price tbd but first month trial is free, yahoo) and the new migraine prevention monthly shot. Fingers Xd all around!
I’m excited and beyond PO’d all at once. Going with excitement for now. Within 24 hours of ordering T3 from another country out of complete desperation and lack of faith in healthcare providers, my naturopath finally agreed to increase T3. I’d been on a microscopic dose of 5mcg cytomel twice daily since I begged for it about 6 months ago. Last night & this morning has doses of 7.5mcg of compounded/sustained release T3 and had a full, functioning, brain-on day. Shopped at so many stores I lost track. (Nope not manic, we have a trip coming up and I’ve done zero to prepare; thought I’d just be tagging along like a potted plant.) Made dinner, cleaned, did mom stuff. Amazing!
I googled thyroid and Cfs and was stunned to find this article referencing ideal ranges for those with low thyroid symptoms but ‘in range’ results. I’m going to print off and bring to ND to facilitate future dosage conversations. Here’s the page; test ranges are about halfway thru article.
I may or may not have ordered T3 meds from another country out of complete desperation. Why is it so hard to get the correct thyroid meds at the correct dosage. Loving the crumbs of Dr. Lowe on the internet & pasting a link. His out of print books on T3 and metabolic syndrome are exorbitantly pricey on eBay/Amazon depending how next days go, may do it.
I’m making progress on CFS symptoms and have found resolving thyroid issues to be a critical component of feeling better. While both my son and I were feeling subpar last week, it occurred to me to hand him one of the Ph strips I use to check urine- we discovered his was also very abnormally alkaline – around 9 when typical is 6-7 range. Since he was feeling better the next day I exited panic mode and this info has been rolling around the back of my head.
Today I was completing ADHD paperwork for his school’s 504 eval and realized I should include the MCAD diagnosis because so many days were missed this past semester. Looking for the allergist doc with the diagnosis I came across blood pressure readings from sons 2 appointments. Early December when symptoms were terrible (he ran out of Drs office thinking he was going to barf, ended up with diarrhea and then felt ok) – blood pressure was 105/62. I googled 11 year olds BP and this is way low, nearly off charts. THEN, I noticed recent January appointment when he was not even symptomatic had bp of 95/55: way off the charts. Can’t believe they didn’t mention it.
Scrambling for next steps for him. During my overalkaline bout I increased thyroid and took care of business. Hard to find thyroid instruction for kids but I’m on the case.
I’m in the pattern of 50 mcg T3 in am and 25 mcg T4 pm; had second lllt treatment yesterday. Today has been a full deep breath of fresh air. Cleaning house for first time in forever. Went grocery shopping and prepping to make dinner. There’s a lot of ‘life backlog’ be prioritized but with brain online it seems no big deal.
Just scheduled third lllt treatment for right before the weekend to make sure my family gets some of this ‘on time’.
I’ve seen various studies online regarding lllt and what piqued my interest were studies mentioned in Dr. Norman Doidge’s book ‘The Brain’s way of Healing’. I’ll be taking notes at upcoming treatments regarding laser type & settings used. This site URL has good recap detail on a clinic’s patients that were helped by low level laser: http://sydneylaserhealthsolutions.com.au/conditions/65-fibromyalgia-cfs
Yesterday came across Steven Fowkes article recommending continued increase of thyroid meds til fatigue lifts, along with patient recommendations to take thyroid at bedtime for improved recovery. I’d already taken T3 meds in the morning, so took an old T4 levothyroxine at bedtime. I was feeling noticeably good within 20 minutes; could read before bed for the first time in AGES. I had energy to pop out of bed this morning for the first time in YEARS. I’m hopeful.
/// Note: Here’s what seems to have happened causing the story below— I had a severe iodine deficiency, throwing off metabolism, blood pressure, blood sugar, causing Cfs and migraines. Now that iodine is supplemented I can drink veg juices w/o getting over-alkaline terrible results. Yayhoo! ///
Well. I got through about 3 days of morning celery juicing and became more and more nauseous, migrainey. Eventually remembered to check urine Ph and I was about a 9 for at least past 48 hours. I’d already been low energy but the nausea took things really over the edge.
Last year when I started seeing my latest naturopath, we’d come across the pattern of me being very high alkaline 8.5, 9 on urine Ph strips when I felt most ill. Added thyroid meds (tests came back borderline ‘ok’) and L-Carnitine, keto diet and alkalinity became nonissue. I think when tapering off keto is when I started to feel bit crappy.
Added LDN to my daily meds/supplements which lifted fatigue but that seemed to be completely ineffective past couple weeks. I didn’t take LDN yesterday and today feel like a million bucks. Still have to pace myself but brain is fully online.
Met with ND today and plan is to add LDN back at much reduced amount. It’s completely saved me from shingles outbreaks and did get rid of fatigue when I started– so eager to find a way to make it work. Hopefully the LDN sweet spot will equal brain and body energy with boosted immune system.
